MiRAD™ - Scaling Radiological Response Through Molecular Innovation

MiRAD™ offers a validated approach to making critical triage decisions during radiological disasters. Our service is a fully scalable, bespoke program that provides customers access to triage assays and instrument deployment configurations matched to their specific resource environment, operational logistics, and mission threat models.

The MiRAD™ Platform

MiRAD’s biodosimetry assay utilizes an engineered high-throughput, microRNA (miRNA) biomarker-based platform designed to quantitatively evaluate radiation exposure. A rapid processing time of approximately 5 hours enables operationally relevant decision support in the earliest phase of a large-scale radiological incident.

High-Throughput Performance

When integrated into a standard high-throughput, unidirectional molecular workflow laboratory, MiRAD™ protocols enable a validated throughput of >10,000 samples per 24-hour operational period. This performance is optimized for facilities with high qPCR instrument density and 24/7 staffing models.

Technical Value Proposition

The MiRAD™ biodosimetry assay provides minimally invasive dose estimation requiring only two drops of blood. It delivers absorbed dose estimation with favorable kinetics and a broad analytical range up to seven days post-exposure with an accuracy of ± 1.0 Gy.

Scientific & Regulatory Foundation

Founded through scientific development led by Dr. Jacob Naduparambil in partnership with The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (OSUCCC - James) at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, the platform is co-funded by NIH/NIAID, DOD-CDMRP, NASA, and Ohio’s TVSF pathways.

MiRAD’s unique dual miRNA design for biological normalization aligns with international triage protocols. By adhering to international emergency preparedness guidelines tailored to WHO BioDoseNet frameworks, MiRAD aims to ensure that high-volume biodosimetry is both metrologically traceable and operationally scalable for global health security.

About the Lab

MiRAD™ can be processed in any high-complexity molecular diagnostic laboratory delivering results in 5-8 hours. Because there is no need for specialized instruments, we can rapidly scale any laboratory using commercially available instruments to process to meet your sample processing demands.

About MiRAD™

MiRAD™ provides high-throughput biological dose reconstruction triage when integrated into unidirectional molecular workflow laboratories and international triage protocols. Our validated workflow enables rapid individual dose assessment (0–10 Gy) to support clinical triage and medical management in accordance with WHO BioDoseNet and FDA medical countermeasure guidelines.
